One out of every nine people on the planet goes hungry every day. To help address this problem, more than 40 people from Gausman & Moore (employees and families) volunteered at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) in Coon Rapids, MN on the evening of April 24. For 90 minutes, our group joined forces with other people from throughout the Twin Cities to prepare meals that will be shipped directly to starving children in Belize. Along with Belize, FMSC sends food to children in nearly 70 countries throughout the world.
Wearing their fashionable hair nets, each volunteer took on a specific task throughout the session. Tasks included loading small bags with rice, soy nuggets, chicken-flavored vitamins and minerals, and dehydrated vegetables. This mixture, when cooked with boiling water, provides key nutrients that starving children need to survive.
Other tasks involved weighing and sealing the bags, labeling bags, packing boxes, and loading the food in the warehouse. The assembly-line approach keeps people moving quickly and engaging in friendly competition to see which group can prepare the most boxes of food.
Overall, the team of Gausman & Moore and other volunteers prepared 106 boxes of food, which translates to 22,896 individual meals. This food will feed 62 starving children for an entire year.
“This was a fun and simple way for our employees and their families to come together outside of work and help give back to the community,” said Jim Manning, Partner. “Gausman & Moore is proud to be associated with such a fantastic organization as Feed My Starving Children and we look forward to volunteering again.”
