Lake Superior Design Retreat – Feb. 23-24, 2018
The Lake Superior Design Retreat, hosted by AIA Minnesota, has successfully attracted architects and others interested in design to Duluth, MN in the middle of winter. This year the retreat is celebrating its 30th year and will take place at Fitger’s Inn. For most of those years Gausman & Moore has been a proud sponsor and conference attendee.
This year’s retreat will feature six design professionals who will discuss their creative process and passion for their art and/or craft. The variety of speakers over the years (architects, journalists, sculptors, dancers, scientists, photographers, singers, engineers, etc.) has kept people coming back. This year’s speakers bring a variety of experience to the proceedings.
- Amara Hark-Weber – Shoemaker, Artist, Educator
- Mary Anne Wise – Co-founder, Cultural Cloth
- Dessa – Rapper, Singer, Essayist
- Kate Sutton Johnson – 3D Designer
- Billie Faircloth, AIA – Partner with Kieran Timberlake
- Kao Kalia Yang – Author, Activist, Teacher
“Having the retreat on the shores of Lake Superior is always exciting because the setting is beautiful,” said Mark Leutgeb, (Principal, Business Development). “The conference always attracts fascinating and fun presenters. We are pleased to support expanding the knowledge of the design process along with our clients.”
More than 100 architects are expected to participate in this year’s retreat. Along with the speakers, other events include a concert by Dessa, touring the Historic Norshor Theatre, attending a shoemaking workshop, or viewing the documentary film “If You Build It.”
