Blake Guither (PE, BEMP, LEED AP BD+C) will give the presentation “The Future of Mechanical Equipment Families” at Midwest University 2018. A Mechanical Engineer with 10+ years of experience at Gausman & Moore, Blake is responsible with all aspects of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection design for commercial buildings.

Blake has done extensive work with energy models and model calibration while also obtaining a Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP) certification from ASHRAE. Blake has used Revit for the last six years and is now a developer for a Revit Mechanical Productivity Pack.

Course Description:

This course will look at three paths for the future of Mechanical Equipment families. This applies to designers/engineers and manufacturers. The first method is using universal families that can be turned into any manufacturer model from selection cutsheets. The second method is using host family functionality to control all the parameters, equations, and connectors and then nest manufacturer families in, the third method is a performance based family with manufacturer data that enables autosizing.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Understand what true flexibility is with connectors in a family

  • Understand the benefits of formulas in families

  • Understand what host family functionality is

  • Understand the benefits of performance tables in families for the engineer and for the manufacturer
